Ivan Konev, Marshal of the Soviet Union, Commander of the 1st Ukrainian Front during the Battle for Berlin.

Ivan Konev, Marshal of the Soviet Union, Commander of the 1st Ukrainian Front during the Battle for Berlin. Typed letter signed "I Konev" in green ink. Konev also added the date "21" to typed line "October 1947".

Complete translation of the text is as follows: "To Col. General German Kapitonovich Malandin. I am sending you a cigarette case - a gift from the workers and employees of nationalized enterprises of the city of Prague, on occasion of the second anniversary of the liberation of the capital of Czechoslovakia. Marshal of the Soviet Union (signed) I. Konev. 21 October 1947".

Historical note: Col. Gen. German Malandin was chief of staff of 13th Army in 1943 - 1945. This army, part of Ivan Konev's First Ukrainian Front, played a major role in the Battle for Berlin. It then rushed south to assist in finishing off German troops taking a last stand in Prague. Malandin was later promoted to chief of staff of all Soviet land forces.

Very good to excellent condition with some creases and couple of small nicks on the edge, not touching the text.
