Medal for the Defense of Leningrad, Variation 1 (with separate eyelet), 1940s issue.
Medal for the Defense of Leningrad, Variation 1 (with separate eyelet), 1940s issue.
In brass, 32.0 mm wide. In very fine condition. The obverse has a few miniscule dings but practically no wear visible to the naked eye. The raised details are very well-preserved and crisp. The reverse shows some minor dings and tiny scratches, mostly under the eyelet and near the bottom, none of them very noticeable or detractive. The brass has acquired attractive patina on both sides with just a couple of tiny spots on the obverse and minimal amount of tarnish on the reverse - no significant blemishes.
Comes on original WW2 suspension device, a two-layer model in brass with self-locking pin. The perfectly preserved, clean ribbon is old although not of the same vintage as the medal itself. The connecting link appears to be of the period, although its ends are not soldered. Overall, this Leningrad Medal is a nice example showing a lot of character but free of any major flaws.
