In brass; medallion measures 31.6 mm tall (incl. eyelet), 27.7 mm wide. Massive two-piece construction; the nickel-plated central portion depicting a coalmine and crossed hammers is a separate superimposed part attached by a rivet. The letters ЛКСМУ ("LKSMU") in the center stand for Lenin Communist Youth League of Ukraine. The reverse has raised inscription in Ukrainian: "For Active Participation in the Development of Coal Mining Industry".
