Large Silver Medal for Zeal - Nicholas II, 1894 - 1915.
In silver, 51.6 mm wide; weighs 58.0 g not including the
ribbon and connecting link. Features bas-relief of Emperor
Nicholas II beautifully executed with extraordinary
precision and skill. The raised inscription on the obverse
is "B[y the] G[race of God] Nicholas II, Emperor and
Autocrat of All Russia". This version of the medal does not
have a signature of the die-cutter.
In excellent condition. The details of the portrait and
lettering are extremely well-preserved and crisp. There are
some minor dings and scratches, but they do not
significantly detract from overall impression from this
magnificent piece. The background field of the medallion is
beautifully smooth with very attractive even dark toning.
The raised border has only very mild wear, no significant
edge knocks. The eyelet is likewise nicely preserved. Comes
on a piece of original period St. Vladimir ribbon in moiré
silk which is correct for the medal. Total length of the
ribbon is approximately 15 cm (nearly 6"). The ribbon shows
moderate wear and light fading only, no tears or soiling.
The connecting link is replacement.
