Soviet 1st Substitute Pennant of the International Nautical Code, in wool bunting, dated 1991.

Soviet 1st Substitute Pennant of the International Nautical Code, in wool bunting, dated 1991.

Large size, approx. 5.5' long, 3.5' wide at the base, intended for one of the larger ships of the Soviet Navy or a large merchant vessel. Same quality and construction as the typical Soviet Navy ensign and other naval flags of the period. In yellow and blue, triangular shaped to represent "First Substitute "according to the International Code of Signals. The same pennant stands for the Russian letter "E" (Est') in the Soviet naval code.

Comes with a short attachment rope. The hoist sleeve shows markings of the Vladimirskaya Factory, quality control stamp, manufacturing standard code "GOST" and a 1991 date of manufacture.

In fair to good condition. There is a large moth hole to the blue field not far from the hoist and some smaller holes / moth tracks throughout. Given the overall size of the pennant however, it will still display very nicely. The colors are bright, unfaded. Very clean.
