Order of the Red Banner of Labor, Type 3, Variation 1
"jumbo", #28849, circa 1945.
Silver gilt, enamels; measures 51.1 mm in height including
the eyelet, 38.0 mm width.
The mint mark is in relatively tall font, in straight lines,
approximately 8.5 mm in width. Based on currently available
research information, these features are unique to the small
series of the Red Banners of Labor with the serial number
range of 26261 - 30120, manufactured at the Leningrad Mint
in 1944. This piece is among the earliest versions of the
suspension type Red Banner of Labor, and unlike most, it was
either awarded during WW2 or at the very least for wartime
achievements in the first months after the war.
Excellent condition. The enamel has a couple of microscopic
flakes on the upper edge of the banner that are completely
unnoticeable to the unaided eye (and can barely be found
even with a 10 x loupe), otherwise perfect. The gilt is
nicely preserved showing only light wear to the high points
of the wreath. Comes with original suspension, a WW2 model
in steel with self-locking pin. The very attractive old
ribbon is old and faded but completely sound. Note that it
is wrapped "in reverse" as is often the case with older
ribbons. Overall, this is a beautiful example of the very
scarce version of the Red Banner of Labor.
