Priest's Cross in Commemoration of the Crimean War of 1853-
1856.
In dark bronze; measures 102.4 mm tall including the eyelet,
58.6 mm wide; weighs 33.8 grams not including the ribbon and
connecting link. The obverse shows combined monograms of
Nicholas I and Alexander II. Inscription on the reverse, "We
Put Our Trust in Thee, oh Lord, and Will Never Be Ashamed".
In very fine to excellent condition, far better than the
average. Fine details of the sunburst, ciphers and
inscription are extremely well preserved and crisp. There
are some light polishing marks from cleaning visible at
close examination, and only minimal wear to the high points
of the cyphers. There are minor abrasions to the eyelet and
area immediately below from friction with the connecting
link. The cross is entirely free from the usual edge knocks.
Comes with beautifully preserved, full length
original St. Vladimir neck ribbon, over 20" (nearly
50 cm) long. The connecting link in dark bronze appears to
be original to the cross.
The cross was awarded to all members of the Russian Orthodox
Clergy who served during the War of 1853-56 ("Crimean War").
