25th Anniversary of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance
(СЭВ),
commemorative badge, 1974.
Nickel-plated brass, enamels; 37.1 x 23.8 mm. Very nice
quality badge showing the high-rise building of the
headquarters of the organization (a landmark in the relatively
low-built Moscow) and the flags of the 9 participant countries
(Soviet Union, nearly all of Eastern Europe, Mongolia, and
Cuba). Raised Leningrad Mint logo to the reverse.
In excellent condition.
The Council for Mutual Economic Assistance was created to
provide framework for the economic integration of the
communist bloc in the post-WW2 world. Essentially it was a
tool of Soviet control but much of its function involved USSR
subsidizing the "client" states through supplies of cheap oil.
