Militia Volunteer in Uniform C 1914.
Sized 3 3/8" by 5 3/8". Solder wears militia cross directly over the cockade on his cap. His belt is regulation issue for Imperial Russian Army. His medal cannot be identified but is held in place by a large safety pin. Postcard printed reverse; penciled notation in English "WW I Russian Volunteer with medal."
Excellent condition. One or two corners slightly bumped but surfaces are pristine.
The lack of a studio designation would tend to indicate that this photo was taken by a photographer working away from urban areas of the empire; that said, the placing of two books on the table was probably done to suggest that the soldier could read and write.
