Lenin bust, in glazed and bisque porcelain, circa 1970s-80s.
Lenin bust, in glazed and bisque porcelain, circa 1970s-80s. By the famous Herend Porcelain Manufacturer in Hungary.
About 6 3/4" tall, ideal for desktop, mantle or bookcase display. The plinth is 2 1/2" by 2". Bottom shows faint maker mark "Herend" which is stamped and the company's catalog number for this item, which is engraved. Note also the unusual technique which combines the use of more dignified bisque porcelain (the head) and glazed porcelain (upper torso and plinth). Classic image, wearing thoughtful look and his trademark 3-piece suit.
Excellent condition.
This piece is certainly a testimony to the traditional quality of the Herend porcelain and is "head and shoulders" above the usual quality of mass produced Lenin statuettes. The facial features are extremely detailed. Lenin however looks more stark and angry than on most contemporary Soviet images, probably a reflection of the sculptor's unfavorable opinion of him.
