Unit citation for providing air support in the capture of Berlin, issued to Major Andrey Pavlov (Андрей Петрович Павлов), 2 May 1945.

Measures 9 ¼" x 13". The document cites Stalin's decree # 359 of 2 May 1945, which honored all who participated in the capture of the capital of Germany, Major Pavlov among them.

The citation is signed by the unit commander Col. Smirnov, and bears the unit's seal. The citation is signed by the unit commander Col. Smirnov, and bears the unit's seal. Very interesting and detailed artwork includes a portrait of Stalin and a depiction of Soviet IL-2 airplanes raining bombs on what is clearly a Western European city. Note that besides the bombers the picture shows a US-built DC-3 transport plane (supplied to the Soviet Union through the Lend-Lease agreement) known to the Russians as LI-2 or "Douglas".

In fair to good condition, showing moderate fraying and rips to the edges. Two small pieces of paper on the left side are missing. The typewritten name and rank of Maj. Pavlov is rather faded but still quite legible.

Stalin's decree #359 was issued exactly on the day Berlin fell to the Soviets and General Weidling ordered that the remaining defenders should surrender.

Please note that the pen in our photo is for size reference.

Note: the citation has been stored rolled up for a long time, and will be shipped rolled, inside a sturdy mailing tube.
